Lecture F. Tulkens ‘Fundamental rights and state security: inseparable allies’ (Constitutional Law Lecture Series – 30 November 2016)
BelConLawBlog and the Constitutional Law Research Group would like to invite you for a guest lecture by Em. Prof. Françoise Tulkens, former judge in the European Court of Human Rights, on “Fundamental rights and state security: inseparable allies”.
Prof. Tulkens will elaborate in English upon a highly important and timely topic, i.e. the compatibility of counterterrorism measures with international human rights. She will also analyze the advantages and pitfalls of a constitutional state of emergency.

In een uitspraak waar zowel in binnen- als buitenland met argusogen naar werd uitgekeken, heeft de High Court of Justice voor Engeland en Wales gisteren aan de Britse eerste minister Theresa May duidelijk gemaakt dat de procedure om de EU te verlaten niet in gang kan worden gezet zonder toestemming van het Britse Parlement. In tegenstelling tot de indruk die het in juni 2016 georganiseerde referendum had gewekt, maakt de High Court in deze uitspraak duidelijk dat de grondwet van het Verenigd Koninkrijk gestoeld blijft op het beginsel dat de ‘soevereiniteit’ bij het Parlement ligt.
