We are pleased to invite you to the seminars organised as part of the forum Which Constitution after 2019? They will take place on Fridays 11 and 25 January 2019, from 2 to 6 p.m., at the Palace of the Academies in Brussels. The programme can be found here.
This initiative allows some fifty researchers, lawyers and political scientists from various universities across the country to put forward and discuss proposals for amending the Constitution. The participants’ contributions will cover very diverse themes such as fundamental rights, federalism, parliamentarism, the role of the judge and, among others, the separation of church and state. The two seminars will be followed on 15 February 2019 by a closing forum at which a synthesis report will be presented, in particular to representatives of the political parties.
Unless it were to lead to early elections, the current context of government crisis offers a rare opportunity to discuss these issues without being locked into the logic of majority and opposition. The large number of proposals we received following our call has moreover convinced us of the relevance of a comprehensive reflection on the long-term future of the Belgian Constitution, independently of current political developments.
We hope to welcome many of you at these seminars. Participation is free, but we ask you to register before 7 January 2019 via the following link: https://uclouvain.be/fr/instituts-recherche/juri/creco/actualites/seminaires-revision-constitution.html
