The absence of a statutory rule on how to inform is also unconstitutional. The effects are maintained until the legislature acts, and at the latest until 31 December 2026, as in judgment no. 176/2025. ## Sections - [Analysis](https://belconlawblog.com/category/analysis/): In-depth commentary on constitutional case law, legislation and institutional reform in Belgium. - [Sixth State Reform](https://belconlawblog.com/category/sixth-state-reform/): The Sixth State Reform (2012–2014) and its aftermath: the reform of the Senate, the transfer of powers, Brussels, the Special Finance Act and the revision of Article 195, starting with a series by Ghent University master students. - [Monthly Overview](https://belconlawblog.com/category/monthly-overview/): Monthly reading lists: new scholarship on Belgian constitutional law, decisions of the Constitutional Court, conferences and calls for papers. - [Announcements](https://belconlawblog.com/category/announcements/): Events, lectures, study days and publications from the Ghent University constitutional law group. - [All articles by year](https://belconlawblog.com/all-blog/): Complete chronological archive. ## Articles (English) - [Constitutional Court: criminal appeal period cannot run without information on remedies (2026-10-31, Analysis)](https://belconlawblog.com/2026/10/31/constitutional-court-criminal-appeal-period-information-remedies/): Judgment 125/2026 of the Belgian Constitutional Court: the 30-day criminal appeal period may not run if the convicted person was never told about the remedy. - [The annulment of the lifespan extension of Doel 1 and 2: the use of measures maintaining effects by the Constitutional Court compared with the Council of State (2020-05-25, Analysis, translated from Dutch)](https://belconlawblog.com/en/2020/05/25/de-vernietiging-van-de-verlenging-van-de-levensduur-van-doel-1-en-2-het-gebruik-van-handhavingsmaatregelen-door-het-grondwettelijk-hof-vergeleken-met-de-raad-van-state/): Constitutional Court judgment 34/2020 annulled the Doel 1 and 2 lifespan extension but kept its effects until 2022, compared with the Council of State. - [Member of parliament, minister, judge. “But most of all I liked being a lawyer.” (2020-03-04, Analysis, translated from Dutch)](https://belconlawblog.com/en/2020/03/04/volksvertegenwoordiger-minister-rechter-maar-het-liefst-ik-advocaat/): Interview with Erik Derycke, emeritus judge of the Belgian Constitutional Court, on the appointment of judges, collegiality, public trust and resources. - [Flemish Government hungry to defederalise Belgian justice: towards a Flemish Council of State?
